What Is Epoxy Floor Coating?
Epoxy floor coating is formed from two different chemicals. These are referred to as the “resin” and the “hardener”. When these compounds are mixed together, the amine groups react with the epoxide groups to form a covalent bond. The resulting polymer is heavily cross-linked and is thus rigid and strong. The process of polymerisation is called “curing” and can be controlled through temperature and choice of resin and hardener compounds. Curing process can take from minutes to hours. That is what epoxy is, in technical terms but in life this is by far the most practical floor coating for all house car garages and car workshops. Why? Because epoxy coatings are tough and durable when installed properly by experienced tradesmen.

All work can be broken down into 2 areas: floor prep and product application.
1. Floor Prep:
Our preferred floor preparation method is diamond grinding. This method allows us to remove concrete laitance and minor scratches from your concrete floor. It also opens up concrete pores and allows thicker floor coatings to soak into floor ensuring excellent bond is achieved. New concrete floors must also be lightly ground to achieve the same result. If floor prep is skipped the only thing is for certain is floor coating de-lamination. Please allow around $22 p/m2 for floor prep.
Is there much dust?
No, but when done unprofessionally the dust (crystalline silica) may lead to irreversible lung deceases. All our tradesmen are trained to prep floors without exposing themselves or your family members to dangerous silica dust. We utilise dust extraction equipment that is designed to extract asbestos dust.
2. Product Application:
If you are considering to seal your double car garage floor with a solid grey colour then allow $30 p/m2 for 2 coats of roll on epoxy. This price reduces for much larger areas.
